Is it normal to fear mushrooms?

I dont fear them, but im allergic to some, so i tend to keep my distance or ill die. But I dont fear death, its just a shame for something like "Death by Mushroom" to be on your death certificate. I want something memorable on my death like...

John Smith died fighting a lion with his bare hands, and obviously... lost.

I used to get that! It had been shortly after I heard of this type of mushroom that causes gangrene, and I thought if I so much as touched it, I'd be at risk.

The fear dissipated after a time, though, so no harm done.

Maybe you're subconsciously associating them with mushroom clouds.
