Is it normal to fear diseases?

I have been dealing with a problem since I was 8 years old, maybe even younger. I have a phobia of diseases, and sometimes it leads to insomnia. What's troubling really is that the thought of diseases really freaks me out, and ppl dying of one is even worse. I need help, is it normal and what can you recommend to combat this?

Same here. I tend to get so paranoid over my health that I have often wondered if I have hypochondria.

    Yes, it is a phobia.
Phobias are normal so don't think that there is anything wrong with you. Well if it is a phobia, you have to eventually resist against it till you are used to it. It's not a good thing to be scared of diseases, because you can almost get them anywhere. Sure, I think everyone is scared of diseases but they prevent them by being hygenic, normal people. When you have insomnia, count sheep, crickets, whatever helps you sleep easier. Read a book before you go to bed, it helps you fall asleep more quicker. Diseases aren't hard to get, but they aren't easy to get. As long as you keep your hygiene up and watch for foods from other countries like going on holiday to Africa etc. Don't feel freaked out about people dying, it's a natural cause and they end up in a better place anyway. 1 person dies every 5 seconds, but 1 person is born every 3 seconds. Think of it in a positive way.

I do read books before I go to bed, trying to keep my mind off the thing, but sometimes the fear lingers in the back of my mind.I try to keep clean, too. It's been a while since attaining the phobia, but with enough willpower and help I guess I can fight it back.

Anyway, good post, and thanks for the insightful help.
