Is it normal to fall in love with someone online?

Along time ago (2 years an 5 months to be precise) I met a guy who was about the same age as me online. I found myself talking to him everyday, we usually discussed our favorite books, poets, favorite verses in plays, etc. We know each other better than anyone else and I can be myself when I'm talking to him. He has NEVER asked for pictures or anything like that. And I once talked to him on skype so he isn't a creepy old man.

But he lives like half way across the world and when I tell people about him they automatically think he is a creepy dude and I'm a naive girl... He makes me laugh, and he makes me happy when I have a hard day. I feel confused about whether or not I should be speaking to him, But I love him alot...And he tries to hide it but I can tell he likes me too.
So is this normal?

Haha, I used to do this all the time. Now I laugh at the people who've fallen in love for ME online. I keep telling them no, no, no, but they won't listen - I have this terrible stutter that makes me sound near mental, and many of my friends from school say I sound smarter online.

It's still me though. Still my way of thinking.

So you know what? I say it's normal. I think the best thing about this he never asked for pictures...good sign, good sign, unless of course he's playing you.

But don't think like that. Toss all dubious thoughts away. If you DO decide to meet up, remember that you are a girl - protect yourself, choose a public area.

Personally, just because I'm uberly paranoid, I always suggest weapons of defense. Nothing freaky so you don't scare the shit out of him, but if you have something to defend yourself, you know? But then again that's just an opinion of mine. Keep in mind you're a woman! Even if you're a third degree black belt I do and will always believe a man can overpower us.

Thanks! I remember I use to think people who fall in love are stupid/naive. Now look at where I am XD

But IF I ever do meet him in real life, I definitively will go to a public area.

This baffles me. I'm usually always bashed, bwahaha, so thank you.

So long as they bring something easy to carry around without getting arrested (i.e. a swiss army knife, pocketknife, perhaps a stun gun/taser if they get lessons). I think bringing an ordinary knife from a kitchen would be erm. Hard to get around without accidentally stabbing the poor guy? Haha.

You do sound quite intelligent online! I used to date a girl with a stutter, extremely funny and wonderfully intelligent. I got so used to her after a while I didn't even notice it anymore.

Haha, well, thank you :) I don't know, I just talk really fast. I'm planning to get it under control though. And that assures me, that you got used to it. There's hope for me yet :3

At the weekend, my sister married a man she met online. Admittedly, they only lived 40 miles apart so it soon moved into real life. But even so, it started online.

The internet works in mysterious ways. Bringing people who probably would've never met otherwise together.

It surely does. There are only two people on this site who I could potentially have bumped into in real life (although I haven't). Everyone else, I never could have known.

Our parents and grandparents lived in a world a million times smaller than ours!

It's normal, just be careful about it. If you meet up with him, bring someone with you or meet in a public well populated area.

    Good Luck!

Maybe you guys should meet up sometime, but not alone! Never alone at first!

I generally don't really believe in long distance relationships, but I know that there are people who do make it work. Rare though.
