Is it normal to fall for your best friend's step daughter?

My absolute best friend's step daughter is the perfect young woman in my eyes. Nothing has occurred at present time, but if given the opportunity I am not sure which route I will take. She actually seems somewhat interested in me, but I can't be sure without sticking my neck out there. There is no way she would stay silent. She is 19, I am mid 30's. She tells her mom everything so in turn my friend would find out and our friendship would be over. It seems cut and dry, do not proceed...but there is just something about her. Am I crazy or what?

I had a stunning 21 year-old claiming she loved me,,, when I was 36. I figured it was an infatuation that'd soon wear off but after 8 months it hadn't. She was as smart and witty as she was gorgeous and I was sorely tempted. BUT, while I wouldn't say dating her woulda been wrong, I felt doing so woulda been selfish of me. It wasn't so much - as mentioned above - things like the fact I'd been dating while she was a toddler and had (vinyl) albums that were older than her,,, it was more present/future stuff. She liked clubbing/dancing,, last time I'd done that was 'pogoing' to The Jam, The Stranglers n suchlike. I still go to gigs but clubs were never my thing. The thing that really clinched it was,,, what if she wanted kids when she was 25 - 30? I think parents have a responsibility to at least see their kids through college,,, and I might not even live that long. Potentially widowing a mother in her mid 30's? Nahh, she'd be better off with somebody her own age. It's a cruel act of nature, programming us males to be attracted to fertile young women but consciously, I think if you have a genuine love or affection for them you have to let 'em go.

I had to give you a thumbs-up for both your good sense and your great taste in music. You are a gentleman and a scholar. :)

While you were groping your first girlfriend in high school, she was being born. As you graduated from college, she was probably taking her first steps or going to pre-school. There comes a time that a 16-year (or so) age gap doesn't make much of a difference, but that time is not when one partner is 19.

    Leave her alone.

At 19, she's still in the process of becoming an adult. Let her finish that process, and maybe when she's 25 or so and you're about 40, something can happen. In the meantime, just...no.

Not shocked by comments so far. I know what the "right" thing to do is for the time being, just thinking out loud here.

I say figure out if she's really into you then if she is go for it hell you friend might lilke having a guy he trusts "his best friend" with his daughter rather than a stranger and if you two really like or love eachother then it might be worth losing a friend to gain a love. As for what ProseAthlete said I know a few couples with age differences like that and bigger that truly are happy and work out great i say go for it. Hope I helped.
