Is it normal to express the opposite of my thoughts/feelings?

Hello, I have this kind of attitude/behavior wherein I tend to express the opposite of what I truly feel or perhaps what I truly think.. for example: If I'm with my family and we see a poor street kid (deep inside I would feel really sad and would badly want to give something or help the poor kid) but I end up saying to my family like 'I don't care' or 'It's not our job to help them' and when they're not around I would help that poor kid out like give him sone money or extra food that I have... I tend do this in different kind of situation, even in school or at home... so most of the time people think I'm a bastard or a heartless person.. I just express the opposite.. Is this normal?

How old are you? There is a time of life when it is almost your role to express a different view in front of your family just for the sake of it. Do you think this may apply to you?

I would not be inclined to worry too much. It sounds to me as though your heart is in the right place.

    I truly wish you well.

Do u feel like you have to prove that you're a tough guy or whatnot? Don't be fake like that. You will give better impressions being sincere than trying to live up to some stupid standard.

While I was teenager (though I suppose I technically still am) I too would sometimes express the opposite of how I felt. I mostly did this with my parents in order to emphasize my independence.
