I enjoy my online life. So What are the pros and cons of online life?
Well I don't know a whole lot about online life beyond this site. I do know that some people spend waaaaay too much time on computers. For whatever their reasons are, I'm sure there's a ton. But at some point some people become disillusioned and start to mix real life with online life and eventually they probably never leave the house. Soda bottles and chip bags begin to consume their room. The bottles become a place to piss because why bother getting up? I have all I need right here. I could order a toilet from where I'm sitting so that means I don't need to actually get up to go potty. I have a million people to type to so why go out in the real world. The sun may hurt me. I may trip and fall on pavement. I prefer the soft landing of my carpet. I can still use the computer if I'm laying on the floor in a mass of garbage ya know. Its crinkly when I roll around in it. I don't mind that my eyes are being destroyed because new technology will enable me to hook this bad boy right up to my brain. A simple twitch will transfer my every thought. I've even set up a rope and pulley with a basket at the end for my pizza deliveries. I have a long stick to reach the rope and pulley pizza delivery system because I can't get up from the chair anymore. My ass is pouring out the sides, but its an ergonomically designed chair so that makes it OK right? I think I should stop here. I'm not even sure where I am now
Lol okai im not that bad. I live my online life through my phone. So when im on the move etc. I was more hoping to explore the mental side of it, so interaction with people etc.but yh im sure there really are people like that in the world and yep point taken in that sence.
Ya I went a little nuts. I use my phone too because I'm always here and there and everywhere. I do enjoy it here. For me its like I get to talk to people during the day and I like that. I'm by myself half the time and it gets lonely :( I only come here though and that's enough for me. Its like I'm socialising :) helps keep the wee bit of sanity that reamains in this birdbrain
I agree with you, Wendell. It's not the same as actual face-to-face human interaction.
As for pros, for starters, a lot of people prefer online communication because there's always a certain amount of anonymity. You have control over what you reveal. Some people even lie about their looks, their age, their economic status or anything they're insecure about in real life online to gain a sense of social acceptance because it's easy to do. Others like being online more because it's easier to find like-minded people. Have a balloon/smoke/horse fetish? You're 3 clicks away from talking to thousands of others who do, too. It'd be nearly impossible to walk outside and find just one person who does or would admit that they do- let alone thousands, in real life. Also, it's amazingly informative. As much new information is made available every 2 days on the internet now as there was information in the entire world before the year 2003. That's incredible.
The cons, well there are just as many as pros. You don't get the same type of intimacy that comes from talking with another person in the flesh. You can't completely trust them or gauge their body language. You can't touch them or hug them when you're sad. There's a lot more to talking to someone than just their words. Sure, webcam technology is getting better every year, but it will never be as genuine as the real thing. Also, internet addiction is rampant and it can destroy lives. You'll get fat and become very unhealthy if you never go out and do anything.
I could go on and on about both pros and cons- each side brings up very valid points. The internet IS wonderful, but in moderation and together with real-life interaction, it can be a very useful tool.

It's not real life. You can't actually do anything significant or real. It's not really living.
Im more free and open about myself, plus I find it easier to say what I want to say due to the slight delay you get with talking, it gives me a little time to process just what I want to say, which can be harder for me in face to face interaction.
I can freeze up face to face cause I don't immediately know how to respond.
Also, there is a lot of fun and interesting things and people online.
Not that I don't do things in rl, I have a job, friends, and hobbies, like my game collection or tinkering with my three-wheeler, but my work schedule doesn't allow for me getting out a lot.
I enjoy online life, but I do have a real life too.
I have social networking to keep in touch with friends and family, and make new friends who share similar interests. And YouTube is my source for entertainment. And this site is interesting and sometimes funny lol.
And, those of you who think online friends aren't real friends, you clearly don't know me and my friends in other states and countries. Some of my international friends I've known since 2007. And some I've gotten to know recently because we share similar interests. It's hard to find people in my area who I have things in common with, besides my best friend who I listen to Bayside and watch Al Pacino movies with lol
I enjoy my online life, but I enjoy my online friendships more than my online life. I've made great friends over the Internet, including here on IIN.
