Is it normal to end a relationship over my gf's pets?

So I have been dating this girl for five years now. Over the last two years we have lived together in an apartment. Everything has been going well and we don't fight often but when we do it's always about her pets. She has two cats, and her mother's dog also stays at our tiny one bedroom apartment a few times a week.

The thing is I'm a very clean person. I don't like to live in filth and so I take time everyday to do a little cleaning and then once every couple of weeks I'll do a big cleaning. Well her two cats and her moms dog make things impossible to keep clean. The amount of time I spend picking up feces wiping up piss and scrubbing the floor is unreal. Her older cat misses the litter box all the time and her younger cat pees and throws up in hidden places around the apartment.

The problem is I am the one who takes care of them. She goes to school and work while I work nights. So I feed them three meals a day, walk the dog, clean their litter, and somehow I even got stuck buying their litter and food. She knows I despise them as I've already told her but she still doesn't take responsibility for them.

She just loves cuddling them and taking pictures with them and I get stuck doing all the shitty parts of pet ownership when I don't even get any joy out of being around them. I'm at the point where I'm thinking of moving back home. If anything just to show her how much work it is to actually properly take care of them.

Is this a good reason to end a relationship?

Yeah, sounds like the pets are just highlighting some bigger problems in the relationship...like how you two divvy up finances and household chores, whether or not your lifestyle habits match up. Sounds like you might have some bigger problems to deal with. You'll have to decide whether it's worth hashing out at this point (and if so, you'll have to have a long talk), or if you just want to call it quits.

It seems she's shit testing you and you are failing.

"even got stuck buying their litter and food" oh, oh god, how humiliating.

Time to start lifting, grow them balls, tell the ladies ALL animals have to go, NO COMPROMISE or you're out the door. Say it and mean it, if they choose to take the animals, they'll respect you as a man thus reversing the shit you allowed for so long. Theoretically.

Pets aren't for everybody. Sometimes, if you are the one taking care of someone else's animal, that can lead to a very big problem, especially if you are in a relationship. I guess you need to be straight with the girl, and tell her like it is. Either the pets go, or you go. Tell her your living arrangement is not very fair. She should be taking care of the animals, not you. Best of luck to you in sorting things out. I am sure you don't wanna end a 5 year relationship. Talk to her and straighten her out.

Dude or girl, if a girl or guy can have pets and a gf or bf and they don't care about the pets or the fact that their partner doesn't like them and takes care of them but she or he won't tell him or her hey ur pets are being cared for by me and if u don't start helping out I'm leavening I can't take full responsibility over something that is all yours and she gets that one chance! If she says she'll help and does for a while then stops or doesn't at all pack up ur stuff and move and leave a note on the fridge or kitchen counter or leave her high and dry u shouldnt be considerate if she can't beL hope it helps I just want to let u know u need to put ur foot down or shell keep using you as er responsibility haver where u take responsibility so she don't have to!

I love the warm and furries as much as the next guy, but they have to be able to live with me without making my life a nightmare. If a pet makes more mess than I can live with, especially when I know it knows better, them one of us has to go.
However, something like a cat throwing up around the flat, would indicate an ill cat and this problem might be solved by a trip to the vet. Mommy should find another place to board her pet several days a week, I should think.
Even without being a clean freak, what you have described would be an unacceptable way to live, for me, too. Time to put your foot down and tell your girl exactly how you feel.

Cats throw up on a regular and it's a good thing that they do otherwise they would get clogged up by their hairballs.

You're probably right. My cat went 18 years and rarely threw up unless she was ill, so I guess I got spoiled.
