Is it normal to embellish/lie on your resume?

have you ever lied or exaggerated on a resume and to what extent? do you think its risky? it seems like details about how long you worked somewhere or why you left, no one is really going to investigate if you have a clean background and skills. but i don't know.

Haha if I didn't lie I would never land a job. I'm made up almost entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions.

I thought you were not suppose to lie since if they figure out you did you can get fired?

The only thing I've exaggerated about is saying I'm self-employed as a freelance artist. I've actually only sold 2 paintings, almost 3 but I blew it. I know I could sell more paintings if I tried (I've won awards and people are always asking me to draw/paint things for them), so I claimed to be a freelance artist so the company would know that I'm creative.

They are going to lie to you for the rest of your life, its only fair to try to start ahead.

Had a friend that drove a truck for thirty years and sucked one cock. People always thought of him as a cocksucker but he was a truck driver. Hope this helps!

I was in a program and a girl from a university visited us once a week for 6 weeks. So our life instructor put that I got a certificate from a 6 week program at a university. Basically giving the impression that I attended it lol. I was worried but he said not to worry. Times are tough though you have to do what you have to. Just dont go over board.

Perhaps it is acceptable to embellish a bit on a resume, but a down right lie could cost you a good job that you like.
The point of a resume is to get an interview and that's where you need to be at your best.
Clear, concise and to the point resumes work best, not multi-page stories of you life.

I put on a couple of resumes that I was an intern at my Dad's firm, when honestly I've never had a job. That's really it though and keep in mind that this was simply for local jobs like Starbucks or In n Out, nothing corporate or anything.
