Is it normal to eat uncooked minced meat?

Few years ago I lived in the same house with this strange guy who was too lazy to cook or even make a sandwich. What he always ate was minced meat. He used to put it on a plate and ''cook'' it in microwave for 1-2 minutes. So basically the minced meat was still cold. Well, maybe just a bit warmed up, but definitely not cooked. He always ate that for lunch. Is it normal?

Eating raw mince isn't exactly a new thing. There are several French and Italian dishes that are based in raw mince. The trick is to mince the meat just before it gets served (or marinated) so the bacteria doesn't have time to multiply to dangerous levels.

The problem is if the mince is "pre packed" or even from a butcher - the mincing process tends to take the bacteria that was on the outside of the un-minced meat and spread it throughout the mince. This allows the bacteria to multiply much faster than they could otherwise, so the longer it has been since it was minced, the more "dangerous" eating it uncooked is.

That's make you sick! Raw meat is crawling in bacteria and parasites.

It is most likely safe for him to eat this, although as far as "normal"... not really

I'd never, ever trust store-bought meat (nasty, inferior)...but the reality is, you're so unlikely to get sick, and especially DIE, from raw meat or eggs that it's so fucking stupid how big of a deal they make over it. People are so dumb. The shit they believe or cling onto that's relatively meaningless and probably won't ever harm you, yet they do dumb shit like bungee jump or even just drive a car without a second thought, even though those things are FAR more dangerous than eating raw meat. Cooking foods releases carcinogens and destroys nutrients anyway.

You actually can cook it that way as long as you unpack it first (minced meat tends to be packed in strings like dried noodles now). As long as the meat is hot enough to kill bacteria, it's perfectly edible. It's just not especially nice because it's been "boiled" as opposed to browned off, seasoned and cooked down.

And yes, in my non-vegetarian days, I tried this. I also made bread with bacon in it (worked well) and bread with chicken in it (what the hell was I thinking? However bad you think it'd be, it was worse).
