Is it normal to eat kiwi without peeling them?

I eat kiwi with the skin still on, mostly out of convenience than anything. It makes it easier to eat on the go, plus I am usually just too lazy to peel them. Most people say this is gross, but I don't think the skin tastes like anything really. It's not strong like an orange skin, and I heard it is kind of healthy too. Is this normal?

I can't eat peels for some reasons. As long as they're organic you should be fine. Also, the peels(skin) tend to have a lot of fiber, but can have selenium. I hears thats a poison, but I don't know if it's in kiwis, though. It should be fine:) Nom Nom Away:D

  • there are different varieties of kiwi fruit, one with a skin that is almost shiny and largely bald and another which has a bristly skin and i defy anyone to eat the skin of this type. i have a huge vine of the hairless type and the skin can be eaten easily but i dont. interesting that they freeze in the winter and thaw much sweeter than normal with no loss of texture

Depends what country you live in. Down under, people often eat the skin and, because of this, their food producers don't cover it in semi-poisonous preservatives and things to make it look nice and shiny. If you live in a country where people often peel kiwis, it might be worth checking out how they are being processed.

For instance, the U.S. used alar on apples, pears and cherries for a couple of decades until it was banned because it causes cancer.
