Is it normal to dream of things that don't exist?

It would make sense to me that it is impossible to dream of anything that you haven't experienced. But I dream of things that don't exist, don't have any semblance or manifestation or even any means of description or comparison to real-world things. I can't even start to describe most of it. It would be like trying to describe brand new colors in IR or UV inks that only I can see. Not all of dreams my dreams are like this - but many are. Some only start or end that way. I call it the "nonworld", it's scary as hell, with my body having no sense of orientation or my mind having any idea of what my senses are taking in. Chaotic and constantly shifting environments. It's almost as if rather than my memories being chopped up and blended like in normal dreams, the memories are granulated to the point that they have no real world meanings or linkages, and when they get sequenced into dreams, it comes out as 100% garbled nonsense.

    These are my favorite dreams!

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who always has realistic dreams.

No I cannot say that is normal, but it is the coolest thing ive ever heard. You've definitely got the sixth sense.

It's not normal but very interesting. I doubt it's a problem but you should see a pyschiatrist to see what they make of it.

93%, nice. Thanks for the feedback all. I do have extra senses, which I know isn't normal, but certainly not unheard of. I also have a few "gifts" (speaking very loosely) which are far from normal and I do not discuss them under any circumstance. These things, and most especially the dreams, often give me a sinking suspicion I'm not supposed to be here - that I'm some sort of thing deposited here (or controlling/possessing some person's mind) to collect info or experience, but designed to feel, think and behave closely to a typical human, or at least easily passable as a weirdo.

After this, I'm a good deal less paranoid about that being realistic now.

Ahaha this reminds me of when I dreamed about flaming, river-dancing strawberries.

It is a dream. Anything that happens in a dream is automatically normal, because dreams are random and everybody has them, even if they can't remember them.

Interesting post. I rarely have dreams with a linear story line, either. It's all very fluid. I might dream of someone or something one second and then turn into that person or thing, for example. There's no fixed viewpoint or identity. (Apparently this symbolizes empathy.) There are certain dreamscapes I keep returning to (like giant, very bleak amethyst mountains) Your dreams sound even more fragmented and very vivid.
