It's just a dream. I don't think you should think too deep into it. However, if you have feelings for this friend then I suggest that you make them known.

Hi :) I'm commenting here instead of on your reply since neither you or I have Gold so I can't message you. Commenting here, an old story where the OP has probably left and the story is off the homepage, is the closest we can get to private. Before IIN Gold and private messaging became a feature dappled and I commented on an old story to keep privacy, so I thought we could use the same principle now since I don't really want to say my full name where everyone can see it. I'll probably end up deleting this comment in a few days anyway to be sure :P

My surname is Dicks. That's "Dicks" as in "multiple penises". Not "Dix", which is a perfectly normal name, but "Dicks". You can probably see why I've been bullied for that before - it's a very bulliable name. I think you're the second, maybe the third, person on IIN to know my full real name, and the other one/two only know it because of an accident.

Okay then, I've told you my surname. What's your first name?

Wow this is awesome and I totally wouldn't blame you if you deleted your comment after this conversation is over.

I have to say that is pretty bad not going to lie. Wait so is your name an alliteration. Dom Dicks? Honestly I could see why you would want your children to have your wife's last name. But I can imagine your personality to allow others to see past that. Plus, its your last name, which is something that people can figure out for themselves.

Are you a fan of Disney movies? Have you ever seen "The Little Mermaid"? Well my first name is Ariel. I'm a guy, if I was a girl then that wouldn't be so bad, but no I'm a guy and I have a girl's name. I've had to deal with constantly being called the little mermaid (it didn't help that I was short).

Yep, it's alliterative. If that weren't enough, my middle name begins with a J, so I'm "DJ Dicks"! >_< But you're totally right, it's not as bad as having an awkward first name. My mum, not totally surprisingly, didn't take my dad's name when they got married.

Hmm, I can see how yours would be a difficult name to have. Have you ever mentioned it here before? I have a vague recollection that you did but I'm not entirely sure. I can really see why you'd hate having that name, anyway. It's bound to attract negative attention from ignorant people. Weirdly, I actually think it's a name that could work for a guy, though. There's an Israeli ex-Prime Minister (male) called Ariel Sharron, so you're not the only guy with that name (in fact, Ariel Sharron had TWO names more commonly given to girls!). And it's not as bad as being called a really common girl's name like Elizabeth or Sophie. Do you know why your parents chose that name for you?

Actually I did mention that was my name once but it was a while ago, and I didn't really expect many people to look at it since it was a reply to someone's comments.

I'm Hispanic and my father said that in the culture (I'm Dominican Republican) it's a name that can belong to both genders and both my parents thought it was a good name. Weirdly enough, I can kind of see where they're coming from because some girl names like Morgan can work on a guy as well and it sounds like a cool name. But I don't think that they really understood that in American culture it's a female name and kids can be cruel. On the plus side though, having a really terrible name kind of helps you build thick skin.

I look at most things here; I read almost everything that gets said on IIN even if I don't comment, and some of it just sticks at the back of my mind even if I don't properly, consciously process it. I doubt anyone else really saw when you said though, so don't worry about that :)

Ah, you're family's from the Dominican Republic? I've always liked the name of that country because it's so similar to my first name (my full first name is Dominic - I always shorten it to Dom). The linguistic roots are probably the same :P

I can see your parent's logic, it's just a shame that kids can be as cruel as they are. I can imagine it does help you build a thick skin though, although I don't know whether it's worth having to go through the bullying and the teasing for that or not :/
