Is it normal to dream i can make it as a famous artist?

Hi :)
I am very good at art. I am always getting in trouble for not going to a college or school or getting a job. I do absolutely nothing apart from spend my days painting or doing textiles.
I have this strong dream that I don't have to conform to society, get a job, get qualifications because I am going to make it as a artist. I don't go around saying how good I am at art at all but seeing I want a true quality answer to this I will tell you that I am very very very good!
Is it normal for me to think like this?
do you think I can make it as a artist and actually earn my dosh through it?
Also I does anyone have any true answers to how I go about becoming known for my art?
if there is someone willing to talk to me about this I would appreciate it so very very much!
I am a paranoid depressive I dont want to give my email away on this but please get back to me if you are willing to chat :) thanks guys!

        You are welcome.

While I do enjoy drawing occasionally, I am in no position to give you advice on what you could do to get noticed. Self-promotion would seem like a good place to start though. deviantart.com is a good community for artists, maybe you would want to check that out?

this is what you do, you google "open call for entry" in the city that you live in. then submit work to galleries until you get accepted to them. make sure the work you drop off looks professional. before you do this, get familiar with the art scene in the place that you live. then go meet some people at some art openings. the worst part about art as a profession is that it is more about networking, marketing and knowing people than making good art. most people who make money in art have a masters of fine art or somehow got connected. being an artist is not about rejecting society. successful artists essentially run their own business. they make the product and they sell it. its ALOT of hard work, that seldom pays like a job. but the artists that i know that make money from it essentially work around the clock, the silly romantic stereotype doesn't apply these days :P

I do too, but I'm scared. But I am going to take a leap and get an art blog. I've realised that my dreams won't come true unless I do this....

  • Whoa I know exactly how you feel...go for it! Thats good that you don't want to conform to societys ways and also I'm pretty sure a lot of good/famous artists didn't really go to school that much. I'm not saying its good to bunk school but I understand you totally if you're using the time to do art. I would do this too if there were acting classes that went on during school hours that I could attend secretly. If you continue up the good work I'm sure you will do this as a pro career. If you want I could probably tell you where to go. :)
