Is it normal to dread your birthday and just wish they didn't exist?

My birthday is in a matter of days and I am dreading it. Birthdays have always been a source of disappointment. “Friends” not even acknowledging it, family going out of town, odd gifts (I got a percolator once), etc. I just wish there were no more birthday celebrations after the age of 21. Am I alone in this sentiment?

It's normal. Growing up, my mothers didn't really make holidays that special, so I grew up hating them. But what you might want to try, is sucking up your pride and telling everyone you're birthdays coming up! Instead of just expecting them to know ;) it help
