Is it normal to dread september 19th?

I have a friend who just over-commits to things and makes them lose their fun element. September 19th is International "Speak Like a Pirate" Day. It's supposed to be fun, but my friend just ruins it. Last time, when an old woman asked for directions, he said, "Arr, ye scurvy dog" and pretended to run her through with a plastic sword.

And even though the zoo were really nice about it, I could tell they were totally pissed off at him for stealing that parrot and supergluing it to his shoulder. He wasn't so bad the year before when he spent the entire day at the pool, making people walk the plank on the high diving board. But he always tries to top what he did last year. This time he's talking about cutting one of his legs off at the knee. He's the kind of guy that would do it, too. I wish he'd just go back to the first time we celebrated this day. All he did then was write the word "eight" on lots of sheets of paper and then rip them up into pieces, while squawking "pieces of eight". That was fun, but three years later and it's turned into amputation and stuff.

Why must fun always result in amputation or scurvy?

I'd dread September 19th, too, if I knew your imaginary friend.
