Is it normal to do this?

I know it seems weird but when I was a younger child (about 8 or 9), I used to have this OCD-like thing when whenever I touched something once, I had to touch it again with the other hand. It would really irritate me for the rest of the day if I hadn't touched the object a second time. Also, doing this usually wasted my time as I had to make sure the amount of steps i had taken were equal.

I've grown out of it now but I'm just wondering...

Is it normal?

Around the same age I used to feel the need to repeat everything I said in a whisper. It was so weird, I'm glad I grew out of that. I think part of me liked creeping people out.

I used to do the same too! (I forgot I did that)

I also remember some other kid in my school used to repeat his words in a whisper too, I hope he's okay now.

Wow. Congrats that you get over it already. I'm still being haunted by this OCD 'ghost'. I friggin hate it. OCD drives us to do something ridiculous and weird. I was called weird for doing many ridiculous stuff by the others who didn't suffer from it.

      Thanks.
Though I'm not sure how I got over it. I guess i sort of pushed myself to stop somehow.

I'm very sorry that you haven't gotten over it yet, good luck.

Thanks. That's so sweet of you. One of the methods to fight OCD that I've read is exactly the same thing you're doing. Forcing yourself to stop. Great job.

when i was young i had behavior similar. i had to do things evenly with both hands. I have grown out of that part.
but some things remaind with me... like i dont like stepping on cracks and if i do it with one foot i have to go back and do it with the other. and i dislike stepping on different colored tiles. example...if i step on a blue tile with one foot ill have to do it with the other.
there some things i did as a kid that continue to this day. But actually most of them i have stopped doing or grown out of.

but i would still have to vote not normal =P.

A very common OCD behaviour. Unless it interferes with your life, don't worry about it.

Not really OCD per se, however things must be organised. You can never be organised enough and if you are you need change. Change stimulates the mind, it is negative to become co-dependent on a set-up. We limit our creativity by saying it is efficient enough. But you know if it isn't filed in whatever system, or not with like items, or not centered I'm not driven to fix it immediately. However if you decide to clean every little aspect better be fucking "perfect" or you're not done cleaning yet. My kids may hate me. :/
