Is it normal to do piercings by myself?

I used to go to an art school but then I chaged my mind and whent to study law. in my old school people used to give themseves piercings to not waste money, (lip piercings can cost 50€!!) the first piercings I did where my ears (with a bit of help from my friend), I've done a second ear piercing and a hand-web(a piercing through the web of skin between my thumb and finger)on my own. of course I use a sterelised needle and if I wanted to have something difficult or dangerus like a toughe or nape piercing I would go to a parlor.
I told my new friends in law school but they seemed shocked and thinck i'm mad. so... is it normal?

Be careful. Piercings not professionally done can get horribly infected.

I've pierced my own septum and ears myself, and my friend has done her snake bites, stretched ears, monroe, septum, and tongue herself, and nothing has ever gotten infected. Just take good care of it like cleaning and don't move it around too much! Also i suggest not doing your tongue by yourself because that is very dangerous

I did my earlobes myself, but I'd never do cartilage myself. I got it done professionally and it still got infected, and I nearly had to have my ear removed by the doctors so I would not advise doing it yourself.

You did one through your hand with just a sewing needle? That sounds awesome and painful at the same time xD Do you still have it? and what did you put in there, a normal piercing?

I did it thew the web of my hand, actualy i wasn't that paintfull but i did num it a bit with some ice just to be shoure, the skin is much easyer to pierce but it did take a while because i whanted to be shoure that it was going in the wright direction
I still have is usualy I put lip piecing rings or the ones for the eye brow because they have a little curve in them. if you put hand-web peicing in goole images you will find e few pics.

Although it's said not to be the safest thing to do, I admire anybody who can do a piercing themselve because I'll be damned if I ever cram a needle anywhere into my ear/nose/lip/etc.

    It's normal, but be careful.
I had gotten 2 peircings in each ear done professionally, and wanted to get a third.
I actually did it on my own (although i did have my friend help a little) and it didn't hurt. It did , though get infected . (Nothing serious, just a minor one)
So just be clean and stuff when you do it.

I have ten and I've done all of them but three a friend did two and a shop did one, due to nerves you have to be careful with some but generally it doesn't matter who does your piercing as long as you keep it clean. Sea salt + water best way to keep it clean

I used to stick a safety pin through my eyebrow every night when we went out. That was on the 90's by the way. I also did it though my bridge once, and my belly button. Not sure what I was thinking... just be careful and cleam

  • I pierced my own ears.

I had them done "professionally" when I was a kid, but they were crooked and not centered. I let them heal over as an adult.

Six years ago, I bought auto-claved tools, had two glasses of wine, and it was done in five minutes. No blood and they healed perfectly within two weeks.

My only recommendations would be to do your research and be as clean as possible.
