Is it normal to do nothing when you're depressed?

I feel like I waste every day doing nothing when I feel like I could be productive. It's just really hard to do anything anymore and when I force myself to do something I get anxious and it takes all my energy to focus. This is with anything even taking a bath! I don't know what to do anymore and I don't understand why I can't get over this!

    Over 9000% normal. :P

The only way to get over it is to find something you can immerse yourself in. Something that doesn't feel like work. For me that's playing drums, going to college, watching documentaries/movies/TV shows, playing games, reading books and watching YouTube subscriptions.

Keep your head up. Your not wasting your day. Your figuring yourself out, your doing things at your own pace. Go on a walk, meditate, do all the research you can about how you feel, use that information to benefit yourself. When you catch yourself doing something negative that contributes to the depression, that feeds it so-to-speak, stop, focus on your thoughts and turn them into positive energy. It will really help turn what feels like an unproductive day, into a nice day that you did for yourself.
I hope I helped. Good luck!

Get outside. They've proved that walking in a park or around green grass lifts the spirits - dunno why, but there you are.

Get some interaction with an animal, this can also help.

i was depressed so i got a dog and this helped greatly i wake up hes there i go take him for walks twice a day, it lifts me, I dont do anything about the house all day, i make sure its tidy but like people on here are saying your not being lazy your figuring shit out, im at the stage now where i want to get out and meet people and restart work. its taken me two years but hey its easy when you get to this stage, if you have family around you make sure they know your situation and be brave, it wont kill you to say hello to a passsing person on the street, it will make you stronger, youll get there i know it.

      Hope this helps

Maybe this is the problem - you're trying to work out stuff that can't be worked out. Some of the happiest people are the most stupid who think about nothing. Maybe if you could switch off and just live minute by minute on autopilot until you're more productive.

A dog depends on you so much, it gives you a reason to live.
