Is it normal to dislike my mother's side of the family?

Okay, quick background story. When I was a little boy, my parents split up. Ever since then I spent most of my young life with my mom, and staying with my dad during my vacations. I enjoy being with my dad and my family on that side because they get me and I like them. But when I'm with mom I lock my self in my room and stay there. I can't last a single day with my mom without her getting mad at me, sometimes it seems like she just makes up reasons to get mad at me. Nobody on her side of the family understands me, or gets my problems and issues, or likes my music, or likes the things I like, or even understand my accent (I'm from the Philippines but my dad's side of the family is Americanized) but when I spend time with my dad's side of the family they get all jealous. To be honest the only two people I like on my mother's side of the family are my cousin and my sister. Is it normal to just dislike them and being near them?

It's completely normal, feelings cannot be justified. I'm not my father's biggest fan at all. I also dislike plenty of members on his side of the family. They're very egosentric and they always need the last word in every arguement. I still live with both of my parents, but the most I ever say to my father is hi and bye. When I move out and have my own kids I don't want him to be around him that much, and I am going to raise my kids to be sensetive, accepting, and happy well-beings that love life. I am very paranoid of leaving them alone with a miserable man like that, but I do not want to jeopordize my relationship with my mother. Looks like I'll just have to stick up for myself around him. It's so tiering sometimes, bu damn right I'll do it if I have to. I'm a grown woman, not a 4 year old. But that's just my situation for you... I don't really like men that much(maybe that's why I'm gay lol who knows) but yeah, my father is homophobic and maybe one day that'll bite him in the ass. My mom's more accepting and I love her for it.

Sure, but, you should work on accepting them more. Make it more bearable for you.
