Is it normal to dislike luxury?

I just feel so decadent when there are all those people in the world trying to scrape together their next meal.

I can relate to the hatred. I remember years ago I was working out at the gym, and one of the TV's had on a show called something like World's Richest Millionaires... It made me sick.

It's particularly sickening from my American POV to see lifestyles of extreme excesses living in a country where 10% of the population possess 80% of the wealth, while almost everyone else is struggling to make ends meet.

  • Yes, completely. You like those with values. Who really knows what'd important and can survive on the small. I do too

I think we could be much happier with a more appropriate approach to comfort as well. It's not only about other people suffering in my opinion. We suffer from all that luxury ourselves.

A star trek like society seems cool. No hungry people and a much more decent approach to life.

I keep thinking that money is the problem. The only thing worth pursuing is the profitable thing and profitable is far from always sensible. As much as the concept of money has done for society, I believe it is now stunting our growth. It's a shame that we need to fall so many times before we learn to walk properly.
