Is it normal to diagnose oneself with mental illness?

I really think I have a mental illness. The things I do and think about exhibit things an average person would never do. I don't really know why I need the assurance of being diagnosed mentally ill except for giving me justification for my past actions...

I wouldn't trust a self diagnosis. Firstly it may be the wrong diagnosis and secondly because self diagnosis tend to fall into the 'I'm soooo OCD' or 'I must have ADHD' brigade of not actually being I'll.

You know yourself best. If you think there is something wrong then I dont think you should ignore that.

No offense. But you don't have shit unless professionaly diagnosed.

Don't think you have one unless you are diagnosed. My opinion, not trying to fight other peoples opinions.

  • Whatever you think you have is probably right-I mean-who knows you better than yourself right? Try getting the corresponding drugs off the net-it'll save you heaps on head shrink bills!

It's nearly impossible to self diagnose. If you read about all the mental illnesses, everyone will find themselves saying they have this or that

It's totally normal to self-diagnose. In fact, most people will read about certain illnesses/ailments, see just a few symptoms, and have themselves convinced that they qualify for whatever the diagnoses may be. Put your mind at ease by seeing a psychiatrist...don't be ashamed; there's nothing they have not heard or seen. You'll be relieved to have a professional's opinion. Don't stress yourself out. Regardless of your issue (or non-issue) there is always a fix :)!

Doesn't seem odd to me because I think I have Aspergers and I've overheard my mom say things like "I think we shud tell him" that seem like theyre talkin about me, and ive pretty much convinced myself i hav it. Idk tho cud all be in my head...

As for the self diagnosis I think u shud talk to some1 if ur really concerned and maybe see a professional

I have a friend that knows he has one too, but because of his profession, he doesn't want to seek help because it would be on his medical record. He even has tried to medicate himself with drugs that were prescribed to his wife; he got her to ask her doctor for them, then he used them all.

    I think a lot of people self-diagnose.
