Is it normal to despise bad grammar?

I absolutely CANNOT stand bad grammar! I hate it when:

Apostrophes are in the wrong place (i.e. "snake's" instead of "snakes" and "The snakes dinner" instead of "The snake's dinner").

When people can't differentiate between "there", "their" and "they're" or "where", "were" and "wear".

When commas, full stops, hyphens, colons, etc. aren't used when they're needed or vice versa.

When words like colour are spelt "color", licence is spelt "license" and travelling is spelt "traveling".

And yet everywhere you go, even on signs and in professional newspapers, you see bad grammar! On a sign on the window of the local pub, I saw this terribly written sign:

Matts 20th birthday party come Sat night big dance off with 6 tv screen's and lots of drink's available

See all those grammar errors? I hate it! I hate how there are so many uneducated people in this world who can't think before they write.

But is it normal to despise bad grammar?

makes me wonder how many times you read through your story to make sure you didnt have any spelling or grammar mistakes knowing that everyone would rip on you if you spelled just one word wrong....

I can't imagine how many people responding to this try hard to not make an error. Oh, and it's normal. I'm the same way to an extent. My grammar isn't the best, but it sure as hell beats "RYTN LYKE DIS".

Oh and From Latin color, via Anglo-Norman colour (Early Anglo-Norman culur). The US spelling, which excludes the u. Don't freak out over the color lol.

    You are an ignorant American!!!

People spell words differently around the world.

    @jenn: Colour is also Australian.

Regional spelling is acceptable. You're being rather arrogant, as these have existed for ages.

Grammar doesn't come naturally to everyone (my boyfriend, for example, tries very hard to spell right with me, but a lot of it he forgets -- there ARE a lot of (contradictory) rules in English), and we all make errors, so you must remember that.
I do feel that language isn't taught (well enough) in schools these days. I had NO lessons in any of my schools, which I found pitiful (my bf went to same schools, so that's why I let him off the hook), I learned everything on my own time.

People SHOULD be putting the effort in to learn and use spelling and grammar correctly in casual and professional settings, however we don't all have the time to proof-read everything we say or write, so we must accommodate some error.

If you were a teacher you'd smack the shit out of students.

Grammar and spelling are two different things. As for the American way of spelling some words, they have their way of doing it and we have ours. Both are correct. Just like nobody drives on the wrong side of the road; just a different side of the road.

We have kids at work that send business emails with the same spelling/grammar you'd use in a text message or Facebook post. Seriously, they'll even send them to our legal department and I laugh when legal sends them back for correction and the kid actually bitches, LOL!!! We're a billion dollar company and I can just see us involved in litigation where the judge needs to have documents translated becuz da bi-atch waz trippin' when she read them, LOL!!!
