Is it normal to defeat a bad dream?

When I was small, I used to have many bad dreams. These usually ended or were solved by me running to one of my parents for protection. But, one night, I dreamed that something was chasing me. I ran to my dad and wrapped my arms around him, but his body just sort of gave way and deflated. Straw began flying everywhere, and a realized that he was just a scarecrow. I woke up just as the thing caught up to me.

Since then, whenever I have a bad dream, I'M the one who kills the bad things. I usually find some huge weapon, discover a superpower, or figure out the creatures' weakness. And, if the dream get's too scary, and just say "okay, this is too much" and I wake up. Once I even woke myself up by pressing the off button on a remote control in my dream. Is that normal?

Oh hail yes!!!! I do this too. Being a cartoonist tends to give me some pretty erred dreams occasionally. But I end up having to fight something and some how gain the "power" to overcome it.

One time I even summoned a character I designed to come and save me! It was freaky, lol. But awesome!

I usually just go "Okay this is way too scary", hit escape and then "Quit Game". Too many computer games.

But then sometimes (usually in the same night) it's really scary and I'm looking for the escape button but I can't find it.

I think so. Sometimes I just wish for a weapon and it appears exactly as I imagined it.

That's pretty cool. One day I was very curious about Lucid Dreaming where you can control literally every aspect of your dream, but you have to focus on it very much and it's better to do it AFTER you wake up so you don't end up sleeping while you focus on your imagination, something like that...but I failed :(

It is kind of hard. I never really focus, I just do it. But it is easier after I wake up, though. If someone wakes me up, I can usually just close my eyes and start the dream up where I started, only everything is completely in my control. I usually can only control some of the things in my dream.

It's all in Ur sub-conscience. Wen were smaller mum r dad usually saved the day and helped u. Then u started fighting for yourself, overcoming challenges(the monster in Ur dream) by urself. As for the off button idk bout that. Maybe just MAYBE Ur subconscious is testing u and ur conscious self feels the challenge is too great and u call it quits? Thats my guess. And yes, it is normal for Ur dream to mirror Ur reality. Others dreams work in different ways but all most all mirror our lives

  • i wonder if the outcome would have changed if you had no one to run to in the first place, but anyhow thats clever of you

Hmm, possibly. That is an interesting thought.
