Is it normal to date someone on the internet?

I've done it before, 2 times even. I don't really care what society says and I truly had feelings during both relationships. Neither of them lasted but real life relationships don't always last either. I say, if you truly love this guy and the feeling is mutual, keep it up. I don't plan on liking the people I like but it happened and I'm glad I had the experience I did. As long as there are Skype video chats so you know the person is who they say they are and a serious desire to eventually meet up at some point then I don't see any harm.

Ignore your friends and follow your heart. If "true love" can exist offline then why can't it exist online too? Good Luck!

Why dont you see him in real life?

I think it's perfectly acceptable in this day and age to meet prospective lovers online. However, I think for it to be considered on the same level as an offline relationship in terms of commitment, you'd have to meet in person.

Prior to meeting in person, or indeed if it's an impossibility to meet, it's a good idea to Skype / webcam with microphones regularly - this at least simulates that face to face interaction and gives you some security that both of you meet each other's expectations, and makes it all the more 'real'.

Yes. My girlfriend lives 3 hours away from me and we haven't seen each other in months. Other than that all my online relationships lasted pretty long, compared to my real life ones. It's easier to date someone online in a sense. You can be as open as you feel comfortable! But the hard part is not actually being with that person....

When you say you are dating him do you mean in real life or over the internet?
