Is it normal to date a single dad when you don't have a kid?

I've been seeing a 30 year-old single dad for some months now, and I'm 20 and don't have a child myself. He recently mentioned that he's thought that it might be better to be with a woman that already has a child and would understand more. I'm very open to spending time with his child, but he has trouble bringing him around because he thinks that it's a burden to me.

Maybe you should offer to take them out sometime for a fun family-oriented activity. Show some initiative?

He could not want you to spend time with his kid in case it doesn't work out. Usually, "meeting the kid" means its pretty serious. There is also usually a big difference between a 20 yr old(s) vs a 30 yr old w/child(s) idea of a fun saturday night.
You sure you both want the same things?

He might just be using you for some fun but doesn't see you in his long term future...and using his child as an excuse
    :(

i dont see how it be much different if i dated a girl that already had a kid. it just takes a breaking in period to feel each other out and accept each other, but try to just have "family" outings a such to help
