Is it normal to cut yourself?

i have cut my self since October 2014 to this day and i can not stop, thing is, i don't feel it, i don't feel most types of pain and when i do its only for a couple seconds before the pain goes away completely. i want to know if this is the same for most people. harming myself has become a serious habit not just cutting but slicing, burning, taking pills, punching = bruising, making myself throw up, starving myself, sticking pins in myself and various other sharp objects. is this normal?

I think it's not normal. I do think what you're doing is a problem. And I recommend you get help.

  • I'm sorry but whenever people I know that cut said "I don't feel the pain" I instantly think you're a faker and do it for attention or to be something you're not.

I remember in highschool some friends of mine done it and they treated it like a right or wrong thing in the sense of "are you doing it right, if you don't feel the pain you're truly doing it" and I was just like, "Are you serious? Self harming isn't some sort of social click".

So I think you're doing this for attention. Now not everyone does it for attention, maybe not even most, however how you'd presented this post makes it seem it.

Self harm is stupid anyway. You should quit with it. :)

I think you're an ignorant dumbass. And I resent you for writing that post.

      • Yes, because people haven't cut for attention before, right?

You resent me?! Oh noes! What ever shall I do?!...I suppose I could get a coffee...I haven't had my morning coffee yet...Yeah, I'll go get my morning coffee.

Do you need attention? Did daddy not hug you enough? Jesus kid... Stop it. If it's THAT bad you aren't just doing it because you can't feel it and are amazed. You are probably gonna have some really disgusting and unsightly scars after. My gf was a cutter. She has little stripe rope scars all over her wrists. Theyd cost her jobs, dates, and all kinds of things because people would see them and think she's crazy or unstable. She eventually covered them with tattoos. Beautiful sleeves. A hummingbird drinking from cherry blossoms on the left and a geisha under a parasol half naked by the sea on her rigt. The artist did an incredible job of using her scars as lines and things to give it some serious depth. Like; some of them became the crests and breaks in the waves. One became her sword and scabbard. Some became the tree bark, some became mountains, and one even turned into a shooting star. It's so beautiful and symbolic of the transformation she has made sense then. But girl; stop cutting yourself. It costed her almost ten grand for her full sleeves.plus the plane ticket to Japan.

Why do it? It's a pointless habit that has no benefit to you. Why do you insist on doing this to yourself?

You don't realise how addictive it is. Its also a way of escape from everything. For some it helps take the pain away from reality. Replaces mental pain. Addictive. Some weirdos just like the scars and feeling.

You're right, I can't relate. I've heard people say it takes away from emotional pain they're feeling, but that's not very reasonable because you're not fixing anything to be truthful. All you're doing is hurting yourself more. There are much better ways to relieve stress and get your mind off your demons.

I've noticed this seems to be too common. I don't think there's anything I can say to make you realize it's a bad habit. I just think it's a shame to see people doing this. Something inside me wishes I could help, but I don't know.

Excuse me but I think you are completely out of line to say that, I am seeking help because I know I need some, I want help and you wont give that to me, no instead you are here judging me when you don't know the full story, I want help so I am simply asking the internet for it, I think this is the only place I can turn to for advice as I feel I cant turn to any friends or family or anyone else that I know, I need an anonymous response of advice not a judgement on my behaviour. (btw I do this for a reason!) :(
