Is it normal to cut all ties after high school?

I've had the desire to cut all ties with everyone I know once I go to college which will be out of the country. It's not that I don't like people, it's that I've never had difficulty making friends and to me it seems pointless to stay connected with people in other countries when I will never see them again. I'll continue to communicate with my family but that's it.

"never had difficulty making friends "

I wouldn't call it friendship if you just drop everyone without a second thought

if anything it sounds more like using people. use them for friendship when it's convenient and throw them away when they no longer serve a purpose.

Don't say that he/she was using them, if you don't know the details.

I myself had no problems in cutting all ties to my high school friends when I went to university. And it was usually me who gave most to the friendship without asking anything in return.

I like them, but I think it's just too much work to stay in contact with everyone. And if I sometimes talk to them nowadays, the conversations always seem so fake. "How have you been? Good? Ok, me too." There's just nothing to talk about, because we all now live in different areas with different people and study different lines of business.

Or at least that's what I think... :/

EDIT: My post might have been a bit offtopic... Not sure.

        "don't know the details".

By that theory NO ONE can vote "normal" or "not normal" on ANY story because we may not have all the "details"

Therefore I WILL judge as I see fit based on what details are there.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not against drifting apart. I just think the whole notion of dumping friends "because i can always get more" sounded a bit arrogant and that it devalued the "friends" the OP claimed to have.

Seems like I expressed myself pretty badly. What I meant was that saying that he was just using them sounded too harsh (at the time).

But I now agree with your point. :) The OP's post is very arrogant.

There is something appealling about the idea of forgetting everybody you've ever met and starting again. Even forgetting the good people.

They won't help you much anyways. If anything they will hold you back. It sounds bad. but its true
