Is it normal to cry just for the emotional release?

Sometimes, I feel like the only way to feel better is to "have a good cry" even if I don't particularly know the reason why. It's more like a culmination of every stress in my life, and crying by myself, often with my head buried in a pillow, seems to be a good way to release some stress. Is this healthy, and better yet normal?

I think it is, lots of women admit to this and if you are a guy, less common but definitely not any less normal. I do it too.

Hey, a good cry is good for everyone, from time to time. Guys get so hung up on being the "strong, masculine, insensitive type and end up with all kinds of alphabet illnesses, when all they'd have to do to stay relatively sane is let loose and cry, once in a while.
Come on now fellas, all together, on the count of three.....

Children learn from a young age that "men don't cry," and are supposed to be "masculine," but the irony is that this suppression of emotion often results in greater release of that emotion, at a later date.
