Is it normal to cringe when you hear the word guesstimate?

In every situation I have heard this used it would make more sense to use either guess or estimate. Why do people make themselves sound like idiots by using this word? Strangely I have no problem with ginormous because that one is used comically.

    I'm the same with the new use of the word "super". It's getting to the point where I expect a doctor to break bad news to a family waiting at a hospital by saying, "I'm sorry. We did everything we could, but he's super dead".

    Guesstimate is annoying but try hearing "I'm a student of life" or "It is what it is" without popping a blood vessel.
