I use to get really bad cramps too, I would even get nauseous or have a fever. Definitely recommend birth control, I haven't had any cramps since. :)
I get pretty bad cramps too, I usually end up sleeping for the whole day.
People have told me going on the pill stops it, or you could exercise more as someone above wrote/maintain a healthier diet.
I get awful cramps. They don't last the entire duration of my period but they're debilitating when I have them. I've found the best (and safest) way for me to treat mine was to take a pair of ibuprofen and a muscle relaxer. I tried some things like vic and perc but they made me feel kinda woozy... don't like opiates really. >.<
You could try heating pads or hot baths. Exercise can also help move things along as well as a healthy diet. A doctor is a good person to talk to as well. Birth control is a common treatment for bad cramps but I prefer herbal remedies.
