Is it normal to convert into a religion for my boyfriend

Well I really like this guy because he's sweet, nice, loving, and I beleive that he's the one. He the love of my life but him and his family are extreamly Jewish, for example his name is Rami. I am Catholic but not that religious at and open to any religion. Should I convert?

  • You both believe in the same God and the same book (Torah/Old Testament) so it's not that big of a deal.

    Converting because you believe: cool.

Converting because of his parents: faked, phony, a fraud.

The only time a person should convert to another religion is when they sincerely believe in it and think it is right for them, not to please their boyfriend or his parents.

Funny, I'm Jewish and am converting to Catholic to be one with my fiance's religion. I love what I'm doing though and it's only a side benefit that my fiance loves it too. Strangely, though, I've been atheist all my life until I started going to Church and praying and going to RCIA. So, after more than 65 years of being atheist, I'm becoming religious.

Don't convert just for someone else. Be yourself. If you two are meant to be, it'll happen regardless of religion.

  • Why when you believe in the same God and the Old Testament? It's just a different angle of believing but the thing about angles is that they meet at a point

  • if you follow your religion and don't want to personally change it, then i would not convert. i know jewish moms can be tricky though. my mom was pissed when my older brother got engaged to a non jew. but honestly, it would be wrong for you to become jewish because you want to please his family. but it would be wonderful if you actually didn't mind and if being jewish is something you would like. if you are marrying a jewish man, you must decide if you want the children to be raised as jews. the family will most likely want it that way and they will always have a strong jewish influence on the children. it would be easier if you converted before having a child so that way it would come from a jewish mother and automatically be a jew. i know the whole thing is very complicated but if you feel comfortable with becoming a jew, welcome!

  • I don't think you should have to. If he really loves you, he wouldn't expect you to convert.

But, if you want to, do it!

Live in harmony and respect each others religious beliefs. No one has to convert, if you love each other, you will respect each others views

I really don't get this idea of just converting to another religion. Sure, you can start abiding by rabbinical law and customs but are you just goin to stop believing in all of the NT and Jesus? Do you think that you can actually believe in Judaism to the same degree as his family?

And does he want you to convert? Many Jews are quite liberal about such things.

    Jews did 9/11...

Back to the matter at hand: Does it matter what fairy tale you profess to believe in? If it makes him happy and you don't mind, go for it. Jesus the magic carpenter or Abraham the magic fornicating centenarian, they're both good choices.
