Is it normal to connect colors and tastes

Whenever i taste something i get a mental picture of a color. Not just red or blue or other basic color, but a very specific color. Like the color of rusted copper with a bit more blue = pineapple.
The colors are always the same for the same taste.

Any1 els has this?

You have Synesthesia. It's not common. There's nothing wrong with you. Your brain just connects things together differently then the average person. People experience this on psychedelic drugs. Where as numbers would be all different colors. Or colors have a certain taste.

I think it's just a different way of looking at the world. Use it as a creative outlet. You might find yourself surprised.

No it's not normal, it's a neurologically-based condition. But it's completely harmless. Who is normal anyways? Embrace it. You're special.

  • It's called Synesthesia. Not normal, but some people are just born that way.

Well technically is is normal in that there's nothing wrong with you.

      It's entirely natural.

I see numbers as having genders. But only one thru ten. And they have personalities. Like seven is a girl, and really timid, while nine is male and a bully. Doing math is hard because if I place them together there are conflicts. A whole equation becomes like a story to me.

It sounds crazy when I write it out like this :)

    • I have the same type of Synesthesia as you! And I feel the same way about number 9. Hahaha!

That can be a bit of a distraction. Did you learn as a kid to make up stories to learn numbers? Or you might just have Synesthesia too.

This is fascinating! I read a book entitled BORN ON A BLUE DAY authored by a guy who's is autistic and has Aspergers. He sees numbers as a combination of colors and textures. Like he might see a number as green and lumpy like oatmeal, for example. He's phenomenal with numbers, and language also.
He taught himself the Icelandic language in a week. I wonder if any of you are borderline autistic?

Woah, never expected to find another person with this! Yours is a little different from mine, so I find this completely interesting...

I can see someone's color, and taste it. Like.. Hm. My best friend's name is Kaleigh. Her color is this thick dark blue-ish color borderline purple. When I look at it, I think "It's cold and hard and tastes like frozen juice." I can't think of a direct name for the taste but it IS like a juice-flavor. Like cool-aid but not. Touch is sound and when we brush against one another it's like listening to a lone flute practicing for a symphony. Her color tries to dance with Ken's a lot. His green looks like it will swallow her, though. :)

Case and point, it's normal! ^^ Your color from taste, and my taste comes from color. I like your perception. Silver-blue is what tastes like pineapple for me.

One of my ex-boyfriends had it.

as a child he thought everyone was like that... but as he got older he realized others didn't see the world the same way he did and he thought there was something wrong with him.

Then he read the Discover magazine article on it and he finally was at peace, knowing he was perfectly fine.

Nope, I learned the way everyone else does, the personalities showed up all on their own. And I am still terrible at math :)
