Is it normal to compulsively lie?

Sometimes I'll be talking to someone and something that isn't true without my even meaning it. Is it normal? Does anyone else do this?

i lie so much its come to a point where i would question if i lie about lies, where i wouldnt rule out everything i type is a lie, where anything i say could be a lie, sometimes i may even try to lie to myself, i tried to lie to myself about not liking games, about not having a crush on a girl, about almost anything that could be lied about hell i tried to lie to myself and others about taking a pen... A PEN sure lying seems harmless at times, but in the end it will turn you into me, where you question if your lying at this very moment or maybe someone else is lying to you, or always has been, like i have this friend he says he works for the US government i dont believe him, i dont personally know him, suffice to say, i dont believe anyone anymore, not even myself...

so my advice to you quit while you still can, before your whole life becomes a question of lies, cuz i have no friends, i know why, i lie, and i cant help myself, i dont know why i do it i just do, and it cant be healthy for me or anyone i may have lied to...

I never lie. Although, I can often kill a conversation by saying, "I know nothing about that subject and have no interest in it." I'd rather say that than have someone bore me to death. Nor do I have a problem telling someone that I'm not going to answer a question they've asked me.

I believe everything everyone says and am so confused when I find out they lied about something trivial. Why would they assume I'd care enough to force them to lie? Ususally, I'm only making conversation but when I find out they lie, I never have anything more to do with them. That's it, friendship over!

If there was no lies there could be no truth

  • Yea. Normal, even if I hate it.

Recent studies done, on people, on what happens when we meet, revealed that within the first 10 minutes of meeting someone we tell (knowingly and mostly not) about 100 lies.

Subjects were set up, one on one, in a room. They'd talk for 10 minutes, then another person would enter and the process begins again.

Once the study was over, subjects were asked which of their answers given, to other subjects, were truthful and which were not. When asked why they lied on many things, many confessed it was to "seem more agreeable" ("I love U2. What about you?" "Oh yes. I love U2."), to fit in, to gain acceptance of the other.

Lies are so common I could almost literally vomit. :\

I married two men that would lie if the truth would get them out of trouble. The first one lied to make him something that he wasn't. The second one lied b/c he had an anti social personality and they lie senselessly. Try to figure out why you lie and try to stop.

I always find myself lying about small things too! I do it without even realizing it. I think it might be a bad habit, but no harm is done right?
