Is it normal to completely lose your appetite when you are depressed?

i'm feeling numb at the moment and i have only managed to eat about 600 calories today (this new diet has me at 1500 calories a day). i have no hunger, is this because i am feeling down or could it be for other reasons?

Yes it's normal. Normally people that feel down have some sorta eating issues at the moment. They either eat a lot or hardly anything if anything at all.

Being sad=eating alot of food. Being depressed=eating little to no food.

I am this way when I am upset. I will not anything if I am upset.

I'm the exact opposite, I can't help but revert to eating away my depression.
That simple fact about myself motivates me to remain emotionally stable, so that I don't get fat.
...huh, when I say it like that it makes me sound like I'm still self loathing...

Yep, same boat. When I am depressed or very anxious, I absolutely can not eat. When I am sad I can eat a little bit, but not as much as I could otherwise.

Lose or gain of appetite is pretty common with depression or sad emotions.

Yup. It happens. I've gone weeks without eating a single bite of solid food.
