  • In my parent's culture, it's a very western thing to call your parents Mum and Dad. I like to, out of respect but it's totally normal to use their first names too.

  • It's a matter of respect. I suppose it's normal now that society lacks in that department anyways. In fact, I was quite shocked when my university professors told us to call them by their first names. They worked hard to earn their title, only to be treated as equal as the student. I had one professor who would only be called as Doctor, and I respect her for that.
