Is it normal to call your girlfriend " you are a rabid person"?

Is it an insult to call your girlfriend "you are a rabid person"? my partner/boyfriend called me that because I was angry at him over something, and he said it wasn't an insult and it is just like calling someone a "rabid supporter".
English is my 4th language so I don't know how bad of an insult that is in this context, it seems bad to me but he claims otherwise.

Is english his 4th language too? Never heard the insult "rabid supporter", sounds he's just copying something he heard on tv.

1st definition. Maybe it's not an American phrase. It's not an insult, it's a description. Pretty common in Australia and Britain.

Whether OP's boyfriend was using it that way or as an insult is hard to tell from her description. It could be either, depending on what she was angry about.

I dunno, it's kinda rude, but would depend on how mad you were I guess.

Do you have rabies? Or support people having rabies?
