Is it normal to call someone you haven't dated yet, bae?

Recently met this guy and this girl he was planning to go out with. Before I even found out they hadn't even gone out on one date yet, I figured they were together for awhile, because they kept on calling each other bae.

I'm not an American, so I'm not sure if it's normal, but it just seems weird to me, they seem so serious from an outside perspective.

    Regardless of having dated or not, anyone who uses the word "bae" deserves a shot in the head.

    Just because you don't go out on dates doesn't mean you aren't a couple. I've had a girlfriend before and never been on a "date".

      The same thing can be said in reverse. Just because you go out on a couple of dates, doesn't mean you are a couple.

      No, "bae" without a b is a new slang word that's popped up in the past couple years. It's like babe except used more ironically and it's more versatile...I don't quite know how to explan it.

    You should really ask. I've heard people address everyone with the word bae. You know, like "Thanks, bae." Same way as saying "girl", or "dude", I guess.

    I'd think calling a very casual acquaintance babe would be rather inappropriate and forward.
