Is it normal to bring a friend when you're meeting someone online?

I've been talking to this guy for a while online. He is so nice, and I know he's real because I called him off the landline and did that webcamming stuff. We're going to meet up soon, and I am quite nervous. My friend said she'd go with me, should I bring her and possibly cause it to be awkward or go it by myself? I swear, he is not a creeper, he's funny, sweet but has kind of low selfesteem.

Should I bring a friend or go by myself?

IMO he will sense that you're afraid of him, which will make his self-esteem go down more. IF I were in his shoes, the mere mention of a friend coming along (except for a double-date) would have me canceling.

Have your friend show up with you and then leave you two alone. Can you bring a male friend and tell your online date that he is coming just for your reassurance. Do not bring a female friend and tell him to bring a friend for a double date. Now it's two guys versus two girls? They have the upper hand if they have bad intentions. You did say he seems very nice and wouldn't seem to do you any harm, but you never know. Be careful and I hope all goes well. Hopefully you two are a great match.

Ok. The whole 3 person first date can be CATASTROPHIC. I can understand if your concern is that he'll turn out to be strange and creepy, but if you're sure he's not, it would just make things awkward.
Have you thought about asking her and maybe a male friend to hang out in a coffee shop near where you're meeting in case it all goes balls up? Try and avoid actually meeting him while with another person, it could ruin one of the best moments in your life. You never know, he could be the one.

If he is a predator he will be against it so there you go you have just saved your life

Yes, it's normal - and probably a wise idea, too; you have an ally if something goes wrong.
Just let him know in advance, rather than just turning up with her.

Bring your friend, if you worried about it being awkward, have her/him sit at another table away from you and just casually check to see if you're okay :)
