Is it normal to bleed rectally?

Now before you go crazy, I've been having light to heavy bleeding ON OCCASION when I poop and sometimes when I sleep. I've only bled heavily while sleeping once, and it was a few hours after I bled a lot from pooping.

There is not usually pain associated with the bleeding. I'm often surprised to see the toilet or my underwear drenched in blood because I don't even feel it.

I'm concerned that this is abnormal. It's only started happening in the past 2 years since I fell really hard on my back while snowboarding. It also never happened before I started putting my collection of work pencils in my rectum during the day.

I don't want to see a doctor unless it's absolutely necessary. Is this normal?
