Is it normal to blame yourself in situations you have no control over?

When there is a problem or something happens that has a negative effect on your life, for example your parents spilt up or you drift away from a close friend, is it normal to find fault in your actions even though you know that, really, the situation was out of your control and changing those things wouldn't make a difference.

to start, i dissagree with the above statement.

to answer directly the actual question, yes. but are you perhaps expieriemcing this? i'll risklessly assume yes.

people confuse the difference between ability and action. you are one of these people.
you do not feel guilty for not solving the "problem", rather you most likely feel responsible for providing "the solution". "providing" can likely be more accurate while changed or interpreted as presenting. you feel you have the ability to evaluate the entire situation, thus having the ability to plot or create a solution. your two mistakes are these; you cannot evaluate the entire situation, and there is no guerentee of the existance of what you consider borderline ""solution". recognize potencial impossibility, not limited to ciertain individuals.

  • Just stop taking everything so seriously, it's a lot easier that way.
