Is it normal to believe The Age of The Empowerment of Women has begun?
I think that time has come for women to do away with Feminism. I think that Feminism has accomplished it's initial goals, and that further Feminist action only serves to create division in society, both between males and females as well as between females and between males.
There is still inequality between the sexes, to varying degrees, in disparate segments of society. This also varying from region to region around the world. I feel that a new idea: The Empowerment of Women is the way forward to correct the remaining inequalities between the sexes.
The foundation of this idea is through reform of government and social paradigms.
In Government: A constitutional revision based on the Iroquois Confederation, but retaining aspects of Democracy from the Greek City-States, the Roman Empire, Parliament and Swiss government.
In Social Paradigms: Adoption of a new 'Westernized' social structure loosely based on the Mosuo Culture of China.
This should not be construed to diminish in any way, shape or form important roles males have to perform in society.

True feminism doesn't work solely toward empowerment of women- rather, equality of both and all genders. Commercial feminism is all "women's power!" Just putting that out there.

I think it's an ongoing process, and should be an ongoing process. Maybe we should stop using the term feminism and start using the term equality. Where situations are seen to disfavour women, they should be addressed. Similarly to situations (which do exist) that disfavour men. It's not about one versus the other, it's about being fair.

No one "rules", because we are all equal. Some people are sadly too blind to see it.

I wish we were all equal, but in terms of oppression, we're really not.

You know, in america, women of any educational background still make less than men? It makes me sick. I saw a program about a year ago and it was saying how America is the only country in the world that, something about how woman are negatively viewed. For the life of me, I sadly can't remember the exact focus of that special:/

There is no "Us vs. Them". They are us, and we are them. ;P There's a song I really like that states that we were all just one cell in the sea in the beginning. :)

at least women, when not on their periods are considerate of all parties involved in a matter while men cant see past their cocks, the world is fucked because men call all the shots,we strayed too far away from our biological roles mostly because men just aint men any more

  • Women have been burning their bras for years since the 60's, BUT now the movement is finally starting to gain steam. Men and Women will never be totally and completely equal, not until men suddenly gain the ability to give birth or women suddenly evolve to equal the strength of men.

I dont understand why equality is so important, cant everyone just fill the role they are supposed to, and be happy about doing it ?

The last question is the same one dictators and tyrants world over have been asking throughout time.

Not to make this too much of a low blow (I apologize) but... Hitler likely wondered why the Jews couldn't just accept their role as inferior.

This is the nature of people. We do not want to be confined to roles, we do not thrive when confined to roles, and society does not advance when we are confined to roles.

It is EXCEPTION that breeds our ingenuity and advancement, that defines progress. To stifle ANY possibility of this is to cripple our species. Equality = more opportunity for exceptional things to happen.

      • Then how do we make more equality happen?

        Comment Hidden ( show )
      • Yes but we still have a reasonable role to play, dont we? The Hitler argument, while I understand it, doesnt completely fit in here. I am comparing the roles nature designed for the sex's.

I mean how much more equal can we possibly make it?

        Comment Hidden ( show )

        • I like the natural argument.
You would be surprised how much more equal it could be. There only needs to be a new formula developed for good governance, that is better suited for the world today.

      • You are correct that women and men have different roles in society. The inequalities that still exist, and that need to be corrected, are within our current socio-political systems.

Empowerment for women I believe started in the 60's. Feminism had good points, but some people took it too far. Viewing females as the superior race and men as the scum of the earth. I used to think like this and a part of me still unfortunately does, but I've realized that there's no superior gender. If only more people would see that. Political correctness has expanded this negative view. Commercials show girls constantly defeating men, grown men that act like incompetent children with wives that are like their mothers, THE LIST GOES ON! It's like a double edged sword and a strange one at that. Men on one hand are still expected to be tough like diamonds, but on the other hand, burn like paper to a flame when dealing with women and society. It's pathetic. This is supposed to year that awakens us into a new era, yet people are still so stupid when it comes to things like this. These problems will continue to hold the "pursuit for equality" back unless someone or some thing manages to intervene! Progress is not promised.

Empower what? We now have our rights, now if more of us would use them...

    Comment Hidden ( show )
      -
    • You have been mistaken. Yes, you have rights, but the rights that you have been afforded are rights within a mostly male-dominated society. This also does not apply strictly to females, as our current socio-political systems are controlled mostly by a powerful elite.

      • NeuroNeptunian

        Ah.

I completely understand what you are talking about and you do not have to explain it any further. I thought this was a discussion about equal rights in the setting of our current societal standards.

Then yes, I feel it is normal. But a cultural revolution will not happen overnight. This would take the subtle yet powerful efforts of a good majority of women (or well meaning elites, in which case isn't very likely unless the doors of elitism are entered by good, well-intentioned people). Hell, the factors that would have to be present to lead into said society are so numerous that I can't begin to list them here in this little text box but you know what I am saying. The question here is: is society ready for said change?

        Comment Hidden ( show )
          -
        • To answer your question, we must make changes to society, and we must make them quickly.
The factors to make these changes are not as complex as you imagine them. What we need to do, is to develop a new societal strategy and to use the current political systems to gradually transform good governance to the new system (evolution not revolution).
Your comment on elitism is a valid one. Many people give in at this point. We must change this mind-set. Simply, ask yourself, what is government? Next, ask yourself, does my government actually represent me?

Equality can embrace differences. Equality doesn't mean everyone is cut from the same cookie cutter, but regarded with the same level of respect.

The war between the sexes is over and we won, we won the second women started doing pole dancing for exercise. ;-)

    • It should not be viewed as a "war between the sexes". There are no winners in this frame of mind, only losers.
The sexes need to co-operate and co-habitate with one another.
Anyone who says that "we won", is delusional. There still exists many inequalities between the sexes.

It's just a quote from a film, i'm not sexist but i do believe that whatever a woman can do a man can more often than not do better, it's just the way it is.

O.P. is usually what we call the anonymous poll creator. It stands for "original poster." I don't know if you knew that or not, but I just thought I would explain because I've seen you calling them "pc" and I wasn't really sure what that stood for.

I kinda agree about feminism, especially as a label. It's collected alot of undesirable baggage and doesn't seem to useful anymore. But how is "empowerment of women" functionally different? You didn't explain that at all.

We aren't equal in the first place. They have boobs, we have a penis, they are supposed to be feminine and sweet to attract a male, we are supposed to be strong and masculine to attract a female and you could go on...
It's not a sexist cliche but nature.
Never listen to a feminazi who calls men who want real feminine women weak. In fact the opposite is true: men who kiss up to feminazi ass are those girly men who let women step all over them. Feminazis believe they own a franchise on all womankind but many real feminine attractive women prefer a masculine man and are happy with traditional gender roles. Feminazis are ugly short haired assholes who don't want pretty women to use their power because they're jealous.
