Is it normal to befriend (talk to )a parent that abused you ?

Is it normal to "befriend" a parent that abused you ?, i know a girl whose father pulled her ears till they turned red and she was a child a 12 or 13 year old,and he was verbally abusive when he got angry , the same girl her father held her neck and almost choke her and told her "if you do this again i will slaughter you ."when she was 24, now she's almost 30 and she talks to him normally and she feels sad if he left the world . I know some people whose parent/s abused them yet they talk to them normally and have feelings for them, it's as if they forgive thier parents for what they did to them , and the parent/s are happy about that . is it normal ?

I think she's a strong woman. Sometimes when you have a troubled childhood you carry that with you to adulthood. A lot of adults are still traumatized by things their parents did to them. She's strong she was able to forgive and let go. Give her a hug for me.

    Forgive but don't forget.
It's a key part to happiness. IMHO.

I say forgiveness is about freeing yourself. She seems to have done that so you should be proud of her.

I don't think its normal, but that is a very brave choice to forgive someone that has hurt her in the past.
