Is it normal to become numb emotionally and/or mentally?

whenever something upsets me in anyway, whether it's anger, sadness or anything negative, I get emotionally/mentally numb for several hours even a lot of times it lasts the rest of the day where I basically can't think of anything or feel any emotional response to anything around me. even simple questions like "what do you like?" because a complete mystery to me

is this normal?

PS: I know that this is not normal per say. the technical term for it is "dissociation" and many people experience it from time to time. however, people who experience similar things a lot are often called "dissociative".

I want to know how common this is among "normal" people.
so if you have ever experienced anything like this please share, how many times/often and how long it lasted.

I don't know, sometimes if I feel a very strong emotion that eclipses every other emotion I feel for several others, so they feel numbed. However I don't know whether this is the same thing as what you're referring to.

I'd say it's normal, cause it happens to me everytime. But I'd also prefer music to make my neurons respond in any negative things. Try it.

I was like this this morning, actually, kind of. Had to put up with something which doesn't get to me much anymore, even though it should, but I'm just used to it now. That probably makes it sound much worse than it actually is.

I get like this pretty frequently. Usually after I've been feeling depressed for a long period of time. It's almost like once I reach an emotional/stress point my emotions switch off. Much like a breaker being set off when too much current is flowing through a circuit.

A crisis -Something I never thought would happen does or I do something bad I never thought I would do. Things I would normally expect to have a very strong reaction to. Instead I just - don't. The numbness can last for weeks or months especially if I don't talk to anyone about the cause.
