Is it normal to become more physically fit while being chubby?

Soo... over the last two months, I lost about 15 pounds (weighing in at 138, 5 8.5"). I've gotten in much better shape, but I gained five pounds (of fat. And it's obvious). It still seems like I'm getting more fit as I work out though... is that normal?

I'd guess that your gaining muscle. Either that or you are not keeping up a balanced, healthy diet. Perhaps you should look at what you eat and watch that carefully while you continue to work out, this should help you find what is responsible for your weight gain.

I don't know why all these (ok 6) people have voted this as normal. It's not normal to gain fat when you are working out.

Are you sure its fat? is it maybe water weight? have you been sweating more and not drinking enough to compensate? your body may be holding on to water and causing you to bloat if you have been accidentally dehydrating yourself.

If that's not it, are you sure its fat and not muscle? I once lost 20 lbs of fat, then gained 15 lbs back, but it was muscle from working out.

your clothing should be the best indicator.

if the issue continues you should probably consult a dr, trainer or nutritionist.
