Is it normal to become good friends with an ex's bff?

Ok so when I was dating my ex bf I met one of his closer friends, Greg. And he was always cool with me and we got along so well, it turned out we had a lot in common. So after I broke up with my bf we started hanging out a lot more frequently and up to this point I feel like he's been hanging out more with me than with my ex altogether. I like hanging out with Greg he's one of the most genuine people I've come across in a long time. But is it normal that I feel like somehow I've taken the role of my ex as his close friend? I'm not saying we are BFFs but I'm definitely comfortable enough to say it to him at some point. Idk it's weird because in a way I kind of feel bad, but at the same time my ex was kind of a douche and it's not like I tried to steal his friend intentionally or anything. It just sorta happened.

That same thing happened to me in high school. My boyfriend got really jealous because he not only felt like I was stealing his best friend, but that his best friend was stealing his girlfriend. We never purposely shunned him, we just got along too great for his comfort. The boyfriend ended shortly after and a few years later my then-new friend and I still keep in contact.
