Is it normal to become emotional over clothes?

Ok, do any of you ever find a sweater, shirt, jeans or something you realllly like while shopping, and feel an emotional connection to the item of clothing? For instance, sometimes I find something I really like and I almost cry. I've always loved clothes and fashion but its been happening more so within the last 5 years.

I guess to me it just sounds like your strong emotions are pointing you toward a passion you have. Maybe for fashion? I assume those who LOVE fashion view it as art and the creators of that fashion as artists.
I kind of get that way for furniture or beautifully designed rooms.

Yeah it's normal. I love clothes! I worked at Abercrombie and Fitch for over a year and used my discount all the time lol! Nothing will make me cry like a few hundred dollar shopping spree on clothes!!! ( I can't believe people r so mean... Ignore the rude immature comments!!! )

  • Wow you people need to relax, she's not hurting anyone. She's just asking a question. This isn't even the stupidest thing I've ever read on here.

To answer your question OP, I've never actually cried but sometimes I do get some sort of strong emotional reaction, I don't know, it's complicated. Haha.

I think you're wonderful for being able to find joy in simple things...don't let any Internet troll tell you differently.

Ya, I was very attached to my pajamas when I was a little girl. Maybe it was because they were flannel and so soft. Anyway, I would outgrow them and they'd end up in the rag bin in my dad's shop - I would feel so sad for the day.

Thanks. I have been a lurker at this site for a long time. Way before I joined. And even still, I tend to read more than I post. I noticed most of the members here are immature, childish and sarcastic..then there are actually some cool intellectual types and professionals..I assume the "normal" people here join this site for a laugh, or to use the experiences as part of their new psychology book or lecture.

Hi :) I'm not that way, but sometimes I see things that if I really like ( I guess clothing could be put in there if I wanted it to be) and feel happy and excited knowing that it could be mine. Sounds greedy, haha hope I'm making sense. Hope I could help :D

And to the other pol, no need to be such douschebags :P

First off, I'm wayyy past my teens and I stated that its only been within the past 5 years that I've felt this way. And if you reallly knew me, you'd know I'm not shallow at all. But I don't expect a shallow mind to recognize one who isn't. Moving on. I didn't come here to argue. Only to share. But obviously it pleasures some people to be mean and assuming.
    Peace and love to all.

Stealinsugars...I agree with you 100%. I seldom if ever cry. I'm a very "strong" person emotionally, and have faced severe stress and problems in my life..and I hold my composure. I've always loved to design clothes, and read up on couture history, designers, and fabrics..I could get lost in a fabric house for hours, admiring the prints, textures and designs..I'm an artsy type..and I think this is how I express my emotions..I guess I shouldn't even have posed this as a question, but since this is the type of forum, I did.
I'm more curious if anyone else shares similar feelings/traits.
Also, as I said before I'm not addicted to a particular designer, nor do I splurge on clothes, but if I had to ask what everyones favorite designer is, what would be your answer?
I chose channel and betsey johnson.

I guess what you need to ask yourself is are you just an emotional person. Do other things or people elicit such a strong emotional response? It may be just the way you are wired. If clothes are they only thing that gets to you, then that's not really normal. If that's the case then perhaps you project those feelings onto an object to avoid the risk of some type of rejection or hurt. Maybe at some point you equated shopping for clothes to a type of escape. Just something to consider.

I know its "only" clothes. And obviously you just want to leave a rude comment.
For your information, most of my clothes are bought on clearance, or at thrift stores. Many items were only 1 dollar.
I'm not obsessed with name brands, or one who has to have the latest styles. I do own many high fashion items I've purchased on clearance..
I have a good eye, taste, and fashion savvy. This question isn't relating to being obsessed with clothes/brands or material items..rather the emotions you feel when you find something you really like.
