Is it normal to become christian, and still be gay???

Okay so I'm just curious. is it normal for someone to decide to live a Christian lifestyle, and turn from their "Gay" ways. Is there anyone out there who has had this experience and can testify as to how you can change your sexuality because Christianity is against it. And if you are a firm believer in God's word that is in the Holy Bible, how might someone suppress these homosexual urges and live a happy fulfilling life? Do you become hetereosexual because it is perceived as right? Please serious responses only guys, no BS.

Different groups of Christians cling to different passages from the bible for guidance on how to live. The bible is an incomplete compilation of texts written by man, inspired by their belief in what God wanted. I sincerely doubt god wants anyone to hate their brother/sister because of who they are. Don't use the bible to justify your intolerance for what you don't understand.

Anyone out their still cling to the following passage: You may also purchase (as slaves) the children of resident foreigners (Leviticus 25:44-46)

I think god made homosexuals as a way to keep population control in check.

    Gawd.
It disgusts me when people toss out bible references to condemn gays.
I hope those women who do so also exile themselves to a tent while on their period...because whatever they touch or sit or lay upon is unclean.
    Leviticus is a joke.

  • I'm an atheist, we humans like to think up explanations for things, so god was one of them, the only reason that the part about gays is there is because homosexuality was HIGHLY frowned upon in that time period, don't let Christianity tell you who to be, use religion to give you hope, not make you feel uncomfortable about who you are. P.S please don't look down on me because I'm an atheist, atleast I wasn't talking down on your beliefs so respect mine

    i am christian and gay

jesus never spoke of gay sex

all those rules were hebrew laws and while jesus himself was jewish. the religion that grew up around him picks and chooses which of those laws it values and disregards the rest.

its either GODS WORD or its not.

jesus is my god and he said one thing above all else

Do for (unto) others as you would have others do for you

I 100% agree with you. I think a lot of people forget that the bible is not only god's words, many of it is hebrew traditions, laws and so on, so of coruse you cant follow it to the teeth. I think if you live by jesus's words and his laws, not teh bible's you should be fine. After all he did come to bring the new convenent, or however you spell that.

Sounds like many people are sincere on here and many are just very judgmental. I would like to invite you to a facebook site called Disciples For Christ, there are a lot of caring and non judgmental people there. I really hope you decide to check it out. No matter what, know that God loves YOU!

Hon, embrace it. You can't live in a Christian church if you can't hold your head high! My suggestion is to figure out what it means to you. Which one means more to you? I don't think it's a choice.

The only way you will change is by the power of the Holy Spirit. Because what God changes stays changed. romans 12:2 says be transformed by the renewing of your mind. you are transformed(greek metamorphoo, which is where we get metamorphisis) by the Holy Spirit. In 2 Corinthinans 3:18 we find that being transformed happens by beholding the glory of CHRIST. but to know all this you must first know and be secure in your position in and through Christ. The Father sees you as perfect because of Christ. So approach His throne boldy and ask Him to GIVE YOU the desires of your heart. and when you rely on Him and Him alone then you will change.

God loves everybody... But that doesn't mean that he approves of all that we do.

The original philosophy behind Christianity was to love thy neighbor. Think on it.

I'm not gay, I'm just a growing Christian who wants to understand other people. Gay people say it isn't a choice, so how do they change it???

  • To "be" gay? Yes. To continue to actually practice homosexuality? Consult Romans 1:26-27 and 1Corinthians 1:9-10 about that. Read the Bible for yourself, and do not listen to moronic sinners claiming to know what is and is not acceptable to God. Paul warned us about the wolves.

The truth is a single grain of sand in a beach of lies. Search diligently. Pray.

@:MaskedGunman I'm sure Jesus never referred to anyone as a "moronic sinner" and that we are all guilty of sin.

I'm a girl but I'm Christian and bisexual. It actually is not as uncommon as you think. You don't have to not be gay to be Christian. You are probably thinking of Catholics they hate gay people and do a lot of stupid things... Most Christians don't. In fact some Christian denominations have gay/lesbian ministers... I believe it's called episcopalian... I'm not sure... They welcome gay people to be Christian. Anyway in the bible it also says that you are not allowed to eat shellfish or fruit that was picked before it's ripe...it says that right around the part about not being gay.., Leviticus it think... These rules were written for the time... It was because the bible was encouraging Christians to procreate (have babies) to spread Christianity... Today Christianity is well established and we also have overpopulation... Don't listen to haters. There will always be some... But it is normal to be gay and Christian.

what you say is wrong. God also said CLEARLY that he did not approve gays in 1 corinthians 9:6-11 in case you dont have a bible i will post what it says

9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

there you go. I hope that makes everything more clear for everyone.

And one more thing, saying that you're a woman in a man's body or vice versa is like saying God did a mistake when he created you, and that's a blasphemy against God. God is perfect and does not make mistakes.

You got anymore questions, don't hesitate asking please

In my opinion, the ONLY way you can go to Heaven is
    i) accept Jesus as your SAVIOUR
ii) know that you're a sinner
iii) Through Jesus is the ONLY way you can be saved.

Sure, being gay is considered a 'sin'. But so is lying, stealing, lusting...etc. We're human; we can't help but do anything about it.

So long as you accept Jesus as your saviour, being gay is fine. Better a Christan gay than a non-Christian gay right?

You can't stop being gay. You either are or you aren't, it's as simple as that. Unless you're bisexual...but even that's simple! But seriously, don't trust those "camps" that claim to turn gay people straight. The people who go to those camps are scared as shit, and are easily brainwashed to believe that they are straight when they leave. You can't turn yourself back to being straight. And I fucking hate those Bible-thumpers that quote that damn Leviticus verse (and yet they always conveniently "forget" that they should be stoning their misbehaved child) You can certainly live a Christian life and be gay! There are lots of LGBT-friendly churches. The important teachings of Christianity are basically shit anyone with morals does: treat other people with respect, be a giving person, and be selfless. You can do all those things and be gay!

Excellent post. Did a tiny bit of research on this years ago and was saddened by the implications of what I understood of the responses from some very highly respected voices in the faith. James Dobson, if I remember correctly, indicated this disposition would most likely be a burden and a struggle one would carry their entire life. Not that God was unable to remove this, but it did seem the exception those cases where an individual experienced deliverance from this. He indicated at that time (this was 20+ years ago) that there were a few programs that attempted to help people overcome this, but it appeared success (true change) was not too great. Of course, there were many cases where people reported deliverance from this, and to God be the glory, but again, this was not the norm.

I get the impression you are not really asking the right/wrong of this from the biblical perspective. You appear to have beliefs based on your reading of scripture that homosexuality is wrong. Perhaps I am reading into your post but if I am correct, I also agree with this. It is true that there are many denominations that have accepted openly gay members even allowing them to serve as leaders. I have met many wonderful, openly gay individuals. Many of these, I am sure are wiser and better educated than I (many times over I am sure!) I can only say against these that in my humble and unlearned opinion, scripture does not support this lifestyle.

I do hope God himself will give you peace and deliverance on this. Best wishes.

No, you can't be both a gay person and a christian one. God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Adam nor Eve and Eve. I agree with maskedgunman, read your damn bible.

I'd say being gay is like a continuous sin. You are doing sin, just like every other person on this world. And God sees -in my perspective- little things, like white lies, as wrong as murder, or in this case being gay.

  • I don't want to come of as mean but God did not make people gay. God knows you'll mess up and you can be perfect that's why his son died for us. If God didn't make people gay then it's not of God and if it's not of God it's of Satan. You'll have to figure it out for yourself.
