Is it normal to be with someone so long?

I been with him for like eights years, My first boyfriend, my first everything.Same goes for him but he did have girlfriends before but nothing serious(in junior high). Lots of people say I should have a ring. But I think it is fine, we want to have real jobs(career wise).I love him and I do think he loves me. Is this normal to be with him so long?
