Is it normal to be uncomfortable when i am touched?

I feel weird when someone touches me. When my friends pat my back or my shoulder even for a sign of encouragement or approval, I feel weird. If a stranger taps me, I feel cranky inside.

I also avoid touching other people, but I'm OK with shaking hands with strangers and hugging my relatives and close friends.

Trauma. I've been taught that affection is a form of manipulation because my family will act friendly towards me, then treat me like crap. The only reason they're ever nice is because they want something. Hugs, kisses, pats, little touches...I avoid them all. I especially avoid saying "I love you," because I know it's a lie and a crappy one I can live without.

I'm the same, too. I just have a hard time showing affection.

  • You are not a touchy feely guy. That's OK

That just means you're not touchy-feely, which is a lot of people.
Whether it's because you're just a less-emotional person or struggle to show affection, it's still normal that you don't like being touched.
Obviously you can touch people that are actually close to you, so you really don't have anything to worry about.
