Is it normal to be turning into a bitter, angry person?

For as long as I can remember, my dad has been the angriest and most hateful and cynical person I have ever known. Since I was a child, I promised myself that I would never become like him, because I felt that it would be completely miserable to live like that.

However, now that I'm in my early twenties, I feel like I'm starting to turn into him, personality-wise. I hate almost everyone, and I tend to focus on the negative and either ignore or trivialise positive things.

Is this a normal part of getting older, or do I have a problem?

There are many things we get from our parents, not just genes (physical).
There are traits I embrace, and traits I fight .
    Fight what your father embraced.

If you find yourself thinking something your Dad would say, stop, backup, and correct yourself in your mind. Hear yourself saying what the person you want to be would think.

I get you. I have been fighting to block my parents negative views of life out because I'm terrified they are going to sink in and then I'll become as negative, paranoid and stressful as they are. I'm still fighting, maybe you gave up?

if you have a clear view of the person you want to be, than you should hold onto that and block out the part of your dad that you don't want to be apart of you.
You are who you decide to be.

Well if you know you are becoming what he was like maybe you can try to change yourself and your outlook on life and others before it gets any worse?
*hands very sugary coffee* this should help sweeten you up for a start :D
